The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, in his speech held for the NATO forces in the Port of Durres, expressed gratitude that the alliance chose Albania to conduct the exercise entitled “Defender Europe 21”.
Meta said that Albania is able to face with full rigor all the challenges that the multinational training will offer and showed that it is committed to meet all safety requirements, in terms of infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
Among other things, the President said that this exercise is a strong guarantee that Albania is ready to defend the values of democracy in Europe and throughout the Euro-Atlantic space.
“This exercise is part of the large amount codenamed ‘Defender Europe 21’. Led by NATO Command in Europe, it is the first time it will take place in Albania and we feel honoured.
NATO is the largest alliance of freedom in the world, support towards it is unanimous, as well as the vocation. This exercise is multinational and takes place with large participation of troops. Our armed forces will be engaged with 1 thousand troops. It enables our forces to increase the level of preparation for Constitutional fulfilment to the alliance. As President of the Republic, I am convinced of the fulfilment of the obligations of the Armed Forces, including those of diseases, like COVID-19.
All participants of this exercise will be impressed, because the house of the Albanian, belongs to the friends and God. Dear US, the friendship between our two nations dates back to even before the great American poet Longfellow wrote one of his poems about the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. A strong guarantee to our path is our membership in the Euro-Atlantic alliance. I am sure that through this exercise we will show that we are ready to defend the values of democracy in Europe and throughout the Euro-Atlantic space”, said Meta.
