Four Falcons Earn WAC Postseason Honors – Air Force Academy Athletics

DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference has announced its All-WAC men’s soccer teams and major awards as selected by the league’s 11 head coaches. Air Force’s London Aghedo was announced to the All-WAC First-Team while teammates Max Sole and Tristan Trager earned Honorable Mention nods. Freshman forward Thaddaeus Dewing was selected to the All-Freshman team.

The conference honors mark Aghedo’s third league accolade since joining the program last season, where he earned an All-Freshmen nod and a WAC Honorable Mention. Trager, who was selected to the first-team last year, earned his second career accolade with the 2021 honorable mention. The honors mark a career first for Sole and Dewing.

UT Rio Grande Valley’s William Akio was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year and Grand Canyon’s George Tasouris was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year. GCU’s Maximilian Moeller was named WAC Freshman of the Year and his coach Schellas Hyndman took home WAC Coach of the Year.

Akio, a senior forward from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, led the WAC with seven goals and 17 points on the season. His three game-winning goals were also a league best as he helped lead the Vaqueros to a second-place finish in the standings.

Tasouris, a redshirt junior goalkeeper from Nicosia, Cyprus, led the Lopes to a 7-0-0 record as GCU earned its first-ever WAC regular season title. With six goals allowed in 626:47 minutes played, he will head into the WAC tournament with a 0.86 goals-against average.

Moeller, a forward from Erfurt, Germany, scored five times for the regular-season champion Lopes, tying for second in the WAC this season in goals scored. His 10 points tied him for fifth in the WAC this season. In his native Germany, he spent time in the youth programs of FC Koln, SV Danhausen and TSG Hoffenheim.

Hyndman, who earlier this year announced that this season would be his last, earns his fourth WAC Coach of the Year honor and first at Grand Canyon. He previously won the award in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as the head coach at SMU. In 37 seasons, he has won 510 matches, including 47 in six seasons at GCU. He also spent six seasons as the head coach FC Dallas, earning MLS Coach of the Year honors in 2010.
